Killarney Provincial Park
Killarney Provincial Park holds a special place in my heart. In my early 20s, I spent just over a year working and living there. Its unique beauty and rich history captivated me, and I hoped to spend more time there. I looked for work in the region and was fortunate to find work with The Friends of Killarney Park, a charitable organization that operates within the park itself.
At the end of my contract, I was even luckier to join the Ontario Parks team as their Park Ambassador in the summer of 2021, sharing my love for the area with visitors travelling from across the globe. The park’s rugged, pink granite landscapes, iconic white quartzite hills, and crystal-clear lakes made it so hard to leave, and I still dream of that stunning place. It’s no wonder that Killarney inspired members of the Group of Seven, Arthur Lismer, Frank Carmichael, and specifically A.Y. Jackson, whose work alongside the Ontario Society of Artists later helped secure the park’s protection in the 1960s.
Whether paddling through the calm waters of George Lake or hiking to the top of the Crack, I always feel a sense of connection to the landscape and natural scenery of Killarney.
